September 11 fundamentally changed our outlook as a nation. On that day, we lost nearly 3,000 Americans at the hands of Islamic jihadists. We also recognized the grave threat that Islamic jihadists pose to our way of life. They are a global threat responsible for lethal attacks here and in numerous other countries around the globe. We must use every means possible to counter this threat, including diplomacy and where necessary military force. This is the only way we can assure our safety as a nation. When military force is necessary, we must also provide the utmost support to our brave men and women in uniform as they fight to preserve the freedoms we enjoy.
