I continue to pursue my agenda to bolster job creation in northern Illinois and strengthen manufacturing in America through my committee assignment on the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee.
I was named the lead Republican on the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific and the Global Environment by the Committee’s Republican Leader, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida. I also serve on the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, which monitors human rights violations in China. And I continue to serve as Vice-Chairman of the U.S. China Interparliamentary Exchange.
“With his prior service on the Foreign Affairs Committee and his leadership on U.S.-China relations, Congressman Manzullo is a perfect fit to lead our colleagues on the important Asia, the Pacific and the Global Environment subcommittee,” Rep. Ros-Lehtinen said. “Congressman Manzullo’s knowledge of China, Japan and the other Asian nations and his familiarity with their leaders and policies will help our committee and our nation meets the challenges we face in the future from this emerging region.”
I also serve on the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on International Terrorism, Nonproliferation and Trade. This subcommittee will allow me to concentrate on changing the Export Administration Act so we can export more manufactured goods.
As Republican Leader of the Asian subcommittee, I will continue my work to level the playing field for U.S. manufacturers competing in the global marketplace. As Chairman of the U.S.-China Interparliamentary Exchange from 1999 to 2006, I continually engaged China’s leaders on the country’s unfair trade practices, including currency manipulation, piracy and illegal business subsidies. In March 2007, I was appointed to the Congressional Executive Commission on China to continue my leadership on U.S.-China relations. My main efforts are to level the playing field for U.S. manufacturers competing with foreign companies.
