Published: 9/23/2009 As the House considers imposing another layer of big-government bureaucracy on America's financial sector, Congressman Don Manzullo (R-IL) told Treasury Secretary Geithner that federal regulators already had the authority to crack down on risky mortgages years ago but failed to act. The government needs to better enforce the regulations it has to prevent further financial woes, not create new levels of burdensome bureaucracy, Manzullo said during his testimony before the House Financial Services Committee.
